KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has accepted an invitation to participate in the proposed Political Financing Consultative Committee.
The invitation was made today by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low to Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming during a forum to discuss declaration of assets by political leaders.
Low directed the invitation to Ong personally, but the MP said he was happy to accept it on behalf of DAP.
The forum, in which both Low and Ong spoke, was organised by the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS).
Ong said the work of the proposed political financing panel should not be limited to dealing with issues of financing. It should be more holistic, covering political spending as well, he added.
He noted that Prime Minister Najib Razak recently announced that the allocation for Barisan Nasional MPs would be increased from RM1 million to RM5 million.
“I think this is unfair and should be addressed,” he said.
