G25’s Political Financing Reforms proposals are a positive contribution to the debate

In response to the news report that G25 has released a set of proposals on political financing reforms, Wan Saiful Wan Jan, chief executive of IDEAS, issued the following statement:

“It is great to note that G25 has released this proposal, drafted by Professor Edmund Terence Gomez. Professor Gomez is the right person to lead this independent initiative as he is a respected figure on the topic and his expertise is undeniable.”

“As a member of the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding that was announced by the Prime Minister, I have proposed to colleagues in the Committee that we should invite Professor Gomez to brief us on his ideas. I am from civil society myself so I feel that it is extremely important for us to value the contributions that can be made by independent experts like Professor Gomez. I am sure my colleagues in the Committee too would welcome the inputs from G25 because we need to take in ideas from as many sources as possible in order to come up with a proposal that is the best for the country.”
