PRESS STATEMENT: Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia issue a public apology to IDEAS President

5 July 2015, Kuala Lumpur – On 2 June 2015, Utusan Malaysia published an article in which Perkasa accused IDEAS’ President, Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Tuanku Muhriz, of saying things he did not say at an event to launch Persatuan Harmoni Malaysia.  His full speech can be found here :

In response to this wrongful accusation, IDEAS demanded that both Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia publish a full and unequivocal public apology and retraction of their statements. They have now done so on Perkasa’s website and the front page of Utusan Malaysia on 3 July 2015.

Commenting on the latest developments, Tunku ‘Abidin said, “I am happy that Perkasa and Utusan have admitted their mistake.  This public apology enables us to acknowledge that humility and forgiveness are intrinsic to the Malay culture that we all wish to celebrate and preserve, particularly as Ramadhan comes to a close.”

IDEAS Chief Executive Wan Saiful Wan Jan added that, “We take false accusations by any media or individual very seriously. We maintain the highest of standards in all our research and public engagements. We welcome all forms of criticism from external parties, but I ask that they please do their homework first before jumping the gun.”

The apology from Utusan Malaysia and Perkasa can be read here:
