IDEAS Media Statement
5 June 2015
For immediate release
Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia must apologise
The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) has instructed their lawyer to send a letter to Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), and Perkasa’s Information Chief Encik Hassan Basri Muhammad, requiring them to retract a false and libelious statement that was made by the Perkasa Information Chief on 1 June 2015 and reported in Utusan Malaysia on 2 June 2015. A copy of the demand letter is attached.
Commenting on this, Wan Saiful Wan Jan, IDEAS Chief Executive, said:
“Perkasa made a false statement and Utusan Malaysia did not check the accuracy of the statement with us. Their accusation is serious, wrong and damaging to the good reputation of our President, Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz. The fact is Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin did not say what they accused.”
“Perkasa, Perkasa’s Information Chief, and Utusan must immediately and publicly retract their statement and coverage. And we require them to apologise for this mistake.”
